Have butter at room temperature (can use Crisco if you do not have butter). Cream thoroughly. Add sugar slowly, a little at a time, and beat well. Add vanilla. Add eggs alternately with sifted ingredients. Pour into greased tube pan (or 2 loaf pans). Bake at 300 deg. for 1-3/4 hours.
