Sift all dry ingredients together. Work in shortening with finger-tips. Beat egg with milk and stir into dry mixture. Spread out flat in greased 9x13" pan - about one-half inch thick. Bake at 375 deg. for 20-30 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla or lemon sauce.
