3/4 c. shortening
1 c. light brown sugar (or use half dark, half light brown sugar)
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3 c. oats
Cream first group of ingredients. Sift dry ingredients and add. Stir in oats with spoon. Make into small balls. Line cookie sheet with foil and grease lightly. Bake about 2" apart at 350 deg. for 10-15 minutes, until lightly browned.
Makes about 4 dozen.
